Enookie Akulukjuk Biography

ENUKEE AKULUKJUK (INOOKEE; INUKEE; ENOOKIE)
Born: January 8, 1943 Male E6-424
Resides: Pangnirtung
Sculpture, Prints, Printmaking
Enukee Akulukjuk enjoys carving, drawing and printmaking. He first learned to
carve in 1960 using materials such as stone, antler, ivory and whalebone. His
preference, however, is whalebone, and his carvings are generally small. In
1969 Enukee started drawing and a year later learned to make prints. He
prefers using pencil and will draw just about anything but focuses on family
and animal themes. When making prints he prefers stencil, lithography and
woodcut techniques. Enukee believes his drawings and prints have improved
with experience and that they have become much more colourful. Enukee is one
of many artists in his family. His father Nutaralaq is a carver. His mother
Malaya is a carver, tapestry artist, printmaker, and she also makes drawings.
His three brothers, Geeshee, Juelee, and Moar, are all carvers. Enukee's
sister, May Lonsdale, creates drawings and prints.
