Each print on a folded sheet with a 31 syllable verse tanka in Japanese text by the artist along with his seal in vermilion ink. Accompanying book of text translated with biographical notes by George Saito, containing translations of the tankas, descriptions of the locations shown in the prints, a map, and 2 additional small illustrations by Hiratsuka. Both volumes 4to. Text volume 11 3/4 "x9" in saddle-sewn woodblock wrappers in blue and white colors; woodblock printed folder volume measures 13"x9"; together housed in a decorative cardboard wraparound case with two bone clasps. No. 57 of 300 copies. A retrospective of the artist's life, Un-Ichi Hiratsuka (1895-1997), was one of the most distinguished Japanese printmakers of the twentieth century. Also, a renowned educator, he was a founder of the Nihon Hanga Kiyokai in 1930 and the first professor of woodblock printing at Tokyo University in 1935.
