Description: In the 1880s, Ball-Band was a trade name of the Mishawaka company, who began business as a woolen mill making blankets and shoes. They knitted shoes, boots and gaiters. As the years passed, they stepped up their shoe production and were known for their rubber over-shoes. In the forties through the fifties, they produced their most familiar product, "Summerettes," which were a fashionable summer sandal. Later in the fifties and into the sixties, The Ball-Band lost their market to the sneaker producers: Ked's, PF Flyer's, Converse, etc. In 1967, Uniroyal purchased Ball-Band and the last pair of shoes made in Mishawaka was made in 1969. This crate, therefore dates somewhere between the turn of the century to the 1950s.
