Seizure of Tobacco by the British Man of War "Diamond" that had been loaded at the Havana for the King of Spain
October 14, 1726-Dated Early Colonial Era, Printed Document, Seizure of Tobacco by the British Man of War "Diamond" and brought to New York in 1718, Very Fine.
This rare Printed Document is 4 pages, folio, measures 9" x 12.5", on Vellum, regarding the seizure of tobacco by the British Man of War "Diamond," and brought to New York in 1718. Some browning and natural wrinkling on the right margin, otherwise in excellent condition. The text reads, in part: "... 2,217 Bags of Tobacco in Snuff, and sundry quantities of Tobacco in Rolls & Hands, Bags of Tobacco in Snuff, and sundry quantities of Tobacco in Rolls & Hands, great part whereof had been loaded at the Havana for the King of Spain, then an Enemy, to be delivered at Cadiz in Spain, on payment of 13,000 Pieces of Eight, Freight. Which Tobaccoes the said Capt. Jacobs Libeled against, as Lawful Prize in the Court of Admiralty of New-York. ...". An extremely rare and fascinating piece of New York history.
