Description: Washington Related 1830 Special Engraved Print George "Washington in 1772" c. 1830 Engraved Print, "Washington in 1772," measuring 4.25" x 8.5" (by sight), in modern gilt frame 10.25" x 12", Choice Very Fine. This Engraved Print measuring 4.25" x 8.5" (by sight), is of a young George Washington is certified in print by G.W. Custis, Grandson of Martha Washington, dated July 18, 1830. The engraving is by J.W. Steele after a painting by Anson Dickinson from the original by Charles Wilson Peale. Washington is depicted in the uniform of Colonel of the Virginia Militia. The certification statement reads, "I certify that the painting of Washington in 1772, executed by Anson Dickson, Esq. from the original painting by Peale, in my possession , is a faithful resemblance of the original, the only original of the Pater Patriae, prior to the revolution. Arlington House, July 18, 1830. (Signed in facsimile) George W.P. Custis." Light foxing overall, but the image remains quite vivid and crisp. Not examined outside of frame.
