October 27, 1831-Dated, Manuscript Document Bank Check Signed, "Walter Scott," measuring about 7.75" x 3.25", on period wove paper, small punch cancel, Extremely Fine. This is a Bank draft signed in London paying the bearer 70 Pounds Sterling. Scott's signature is crisp and clear, measuring 1.25" long. Document in excellent fresh condition with crisp edges.
Sir Walter Scott a Scottish historical novelist, playwright, and poet, popular throughout much of the world during his time. Scott was the first English-language author to have an international career in his lifetime, with many contemporary readers in Europe, Australia, and North America. His novels and poetry are still read, and many of his works remain classics of both English-language and of Scottish literature. Famous titles include Ivanhoe, Rob Roy, The Lady of the Lake, Waverley, The Heart of Midlothian and The Bride of Lammermoor.
