Looking for the realised and estimated price?

Description: Southeast Asia, Burma, Ava Period, ca. 18th to 19th centuries CE. This is an intriguing and quite unique cast bronze piece, an object that may have been a finial, placed atop or part of something made of a perishable material like wood. The symbolism here is unmistakable. The Buddha sits beneath the bodhi tree, having just achieved enlightenment, and is delivering a sermon to a circle of people and two deer. This is a scene from his first sermon, which took place at the deer park of Varanasi, India. This item was cast during the Ava period, a time of transition and upheaval in Burmese history, when ties with India - previously very strong - began to fall away because of the ongoing warfare and lack of centralized power. During this time, the Burmere began to make their own unique depictions of the Buddha, rather than relying upon Indian influence as they had done in previous periods. Size: 3.1" W x 4.55" H (7.9 cm x 11.6 cm)

Provenance: Ex-private Los Angeles, CA collection, Ex-Arte Primitivo, NYC, NY
