Lovely Babe Ruth Framed Check Signed "G.H. Ruth" 1942
GEORGE HERMAN "BABE" RUTH (1895-1948). Legendary American Baseball Star and Hall of Famer.
February 28, 1942-Dated, Partially-Printed Document, Check Signed, "G. H. Ruth", and also completely filled out in his hand, New York, 3" x 8.25", Extremely Fine. Drawn on Chemical Bank & Trust Company and made out to Carrie L. Merritt in the amount of $150.00. Printed down along the left margin is his namesake, "BABE RUTH". The ink is quite bold, with an excellent vivid signature measuring 2.75" long, that is free of all but one tiny cancellation hole in the top of "G". Nicely matted and professionally framed viewed under special UV Plexi for display, shown together with a large 9" x 7" classic photo reproduction of Ruth, signing a baseball, dressed in his New York Yankee uniform just above the signed check. Overall, an outstanding example. In the world of sports autographs, there is nothing more symbolic than this man's impressive signature. Babe Ruth's autograph is the most popular and desired in this field. Ruth was among the most prolific autograph signers of his time. However, the superb continued demand for items signed by "The Babe" has not wavered.
There are also several variations of his signature. From the abbreviated "G H Ruth" seen here, often found on his canceled checks, to his ever popular "Babe Ruth," to his rare, full-name version "George Herman Ruth". They are all highly desirable for any serious autograph collection. Babe Ruth died in 1948 at the age of 53.
