Lot 91: 1961 Wild in the Country French "Grande" (One-Panel) Movie Poster - Dramatic Artwork and Beautifully Framed - Elvis Presley in Amour Sauvage
29 October 2016
Memphis, TN, USALive Auction
The 20th Century Fox 1961 film Wild in the Country was another serious acting role for Elvis Presley following Flaming Star's more dramatic turn. That being said, the studio insisted that the film include four songs for Elvis, and subsequent to this film, his acting took a more musical direction with a string of films using the Elvis musical formula fans know and love. In this film, Elvis portrays Glenn Tyler, a Southern man from a troubled family who aspires to be a writer. The offered French "grande" movie poster presents an arresting, central illustration of our hero, flanked by his co-stars Hope Lange and Tuesday Weld. The artwork is a huge departure from what we see on the poster's U.S. counterparts, and its dramatic large size only adds to its impact. Framed dimensions are 67 by 51 inches (170.18 x 129.54 cm), and the poster measures 63 by 47 inches (160.02 x 119.38 cm). Accompanied by a letter of authenticity from Graceland Authenticated.
Condition Report: The poster presents with only a few areas of toning and mild wear, mostly in the areas of the original factory folds. The darkly colored artwork and title remain colorful and bright. Excellent condition.
