Lot 120: 1969 7-Inch 45 RPM Acetate for Elvis Presley's "His Hand in Mine"
29 October 2016
Memphis, TN, USALive Auction
This acetate, on an RCA Custom Records label that was used from 1969 onwards, is likely an acetate made at the time "His Hand in Mine" was being released on the now-rare 45 together with "How Great Thou Art" in March of 1969. The handwritten label indicates the speed as "45," the No. "Ref 443/3" which is also etched on the record itself, and "Elvis Presley / His Hand In Mine / 3:00." The reverse of the record has no label and the 45 is in its original RCA Victor red, black and white sleeve. The single shares the name of Elvis' 12th studio album, which was released in November 1960, after being recorded just 10 days prior in October in one 14-hour session. In February 1967, the album How Great Thou Art was released, but it was not until several years later that these two songs would be married on a 45 RPM single release. This rare acetate measures 6 3/4 inches (17.14 cm) and is accompanied by a letter of authenticity from Graceland Authenticated.
Condition Report: The acetate is in excellent condition overall with some minor discoloration to the label and minor scratches commensurate with age. Original RCA Victor sleeve has a few minor tears and wear around the edges, otherwise in great condition overall.
