Lot 115: 1969 RIAA Gold Record Award for Elvis Presley's Album Elvis in Person at the International Hotel Presented to RCA Records

This framed RIAA Certified Gold Sales Award for Elvis in Person at the International Hotel Las Vegas, Nevada was "Presented to RCA Records to commemorate the sale of more than 500,000 copies of the RCA Records album and cassette "Elvis in Person at the International Hotel Las Vegas, Nevada'" by Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA). RIAA was created in 1958 to honor artists and set a standard by which the sale of sound recordings could be evaluated and measured. This album, released in October 1969 and recorded in January, February and August 1969, was certified gold in December 1969. This framed display features a gold-colored record and cassette above a gold-colored plaque, both mounted against a black backing with black frame and measures 21 by 17 inches (53.34 x 43.18 cm).
The framed display is offered with a letter from Joseph Kereata that states in part, "This gold award was presented to an RCA executive in 1992 by the Recording Industry Association of America. The RIAA audits record companies and certifies record sales. This award coincides with the awards that were presented to the Elvis Presley estate in August of 1992. In fact, the A side was awarded to the Elvis Presley estate while the B side went to the executive." Also included are copies of additional documentation regarding the record and award. The framed award is accompanied by a letter of authenticity from Graceland Authenticated.
