Book Details: From the consignor's notes: "This volume is a record of discovery and adventure, published for the Committee of the Palestine Exploration Fund. The main purpose of this work was to complete an accurate trigonometrical survey of Western Palestine. In the process, many ancient ruins and landmarks were located, examined, and mapped. This report is a combination of geography, religious and secular history, native ethnography, politics, and scientific observations."
Condition / Notes: These antique volumes are the first edition of this work. They are bound in green cloth, with gilt stamped pictorial design and black stamped lettering to the front cover, and gilt lettering and decoration to the spine. Both volumes have been re-backed in matching green cloth, with original spine covers affixed to the new backstrips. The exteriors display minor wear, with a few faint spots of soiling and very light wear to the extremities. Both volumes are firmly bound, with new marbled endpapers. The pages display minor toning at the edges, but are otherwise clean and bright, illustrated with occasional textual illustrations and plates, as well as at least one fold-out plate.
