Book Details: This lot consists of the bound compilations of "Harper's New Monthly Magazine" shown in the corresponding images.
These bound compilations include Volume XXIII: June to November, 1861; Volume XXIV: December 1861 to May 1862; and Volume XXV: June to November, 1862. These issues include records of monthly current events, which are listed by subjects in the tables of contents. These include records of battles fought during the first year and a half of the Civil War, including both Battles of Bull Run; information on military appointments; and political news of both the Union and the Confederacy. These volumes are richly illustrated with textual and full-page illustrations, ranging from the day's prominent fashions, to illustrations of short stories; to depictions of antique weaponry.

Condition / Notes: These antique volumes are bound in half leather, with black cloth boards, gilt lettering and decoration to the spines, and four raised bands. The volumes display mild to moderate external wear, with rubbing, faint vertical cracking to spine edges, and faint soiling. The bindings are sound. The original spine cover of Volume XXIII has been attached to the volume's backstrip. The interiors of these volumes display scattered spots of foxing and moisture, as well as creasing and light edge wear.
