Book Details: A study of the character, position, and history of older single women, including some examples of literary old maids in English literature. Due to its sometimes flippant tone, the work was not well received by the women it was meant to defend.
Condition / Notes: This is the third edition of this work, bound in three-quarter leather with marbled paper covers and stamped gilt lettering/ornamentation on the spines. There is light external age/wear. The bindings are sound. The book is adorned with marbled edges. Each volume contains a tissue-guarded engraved frontispiece. The pages are generally clean with occasional light marginal spots.
