Description: Superbly crafted helmet bowl formed of 64 leather suji plates. Very likely a work by the Iwai School, no inscription. Five-stage gilt tehen kanamono with fine, engraved sukashi decoration. Three-lame, black lacquered ko manju shikoro of iron in medium blue sugake lacing. Large, leather covered fukigaeshi, on it, as on the mabezashi, the take mons of the Hoso clan worked in shakudo. Associated oyebo mempo of robust, hardened leather, the interior lacquered red. Two-lame yodare kake, also in medium blue sugake lacing. Height 26 cm, width 40 cm.
