Description: Axe head with large straight-edged blade. Oval socket, the upper edge with semicircular indentation for the barrel. Octagonal, then round barrel with smooth bore in 14 mm calibre. The barrel root struck with Nuremberg proofmark between engraved acanthus decoration. Wheellock with external wheel and safety-catch. Spring-loaded pan cover with release button. Mechanism partly rust-coated on the inside. Trigger guard with chiselled acanthus decoration. Walnut stock richly inlaid with engraved and blackened bone. Decoration of mythological figures and grotesque heads between tendrils and blossoms. Wooden stock worm-ridden in places, the surfaces slightly sanded, partly with minor restorations. Inserted original wooden ramrod with tip and threaded sleeve of iron. Length 76 cm. Extremely rare combination weapon. Two similar items can be found in the collection of the Historical Museum Dresden, one with an almost identical, equally unmarked lock. Cf. Lewerken, Heinz-Werner, "Kombinationswaffen des 15. - 19.
