Description: This oil on board painting from 1960, titled "A Bird in its Nest", depicts a ptarmigan with her two chicks in an indistinct woodland setting. Gertrude Rogers, born September 4, 1896, in Ionia, Michigan began her artistic career late in life; although she did not begin her painting activity until 1946, encouragement from her family and support from a Michigan State University professor gave her the determination to press on with her talents. She works in the “naïf” folk art style, and her subject matter draws heavily from her childhood memories of growing up on a farm. It is signed and framed. Including the frame, the dimensions are 17 1/2 inches wide by 20 1/4 inches high. Without the frame the dimensions are 11 1/2 inches wide by 14 inches high. All measurements are approximate. Condition: It is in good condition. Provenance: From a Virginia estate. High resolution images can be found at: https://file.ac/8E4OF_jxN84/
