Description: The blade of the katana shinogi zukuri, chu kissaki, torii zori. Ko-gunome with sambonsugi midare hamon, mokume and masame hada. Midare komi boshi with deep kaeri. Old, partially slightly scratched kesho polish with small, overpolished rust spots. Nakago ubu with two mekugi ana, taka no ha yasurime, inscribed "Kanemoto". Gold plated niju habaki with yasurime. The blade of the wakizashi shobu zukuri, torii zori, gunome hamon and clear mokume hada. Midare komi boshi with short kaeri. Old, kesho polish with minimal scratches in places and smaller, overpolished rust spots. Nakago ubu, with two mekugi ana, one filled with shakudo, kate sagari yasurime, inscribed "Noshu Seki Ju Kanemoto". Gold plated niju habaki with extensive nekogaki. The fuchi and kashira have a shakudo nanako ground and are delicately decorated in fine relief with gold cloud dragons with shakudo inlaid eyes, inscribed "Tsusho Yoshihisa" (Hitachi, circa 1760). Tsuka fitted with very delicate same and mounted with a pair of copper menuki in the form of a large cloud dragon with golden details, green silk thread wrap. Mokkogata shakudo tsuba with gold dragons between waves, the spray indicated by gold dots. Kogai and kozuka ana filled with small etched gold pegs, Goto work dating from around 1800. Black lacquered, vertically ribbed lacquer saya, kurigata of shakudo, also with a gold dragon design. The saya of the wakizashi with a shakudo band featuring gold inlaid kiri mon, iron kozuka decorated en suite with a sculpted golden dragon with shakudo eyes on very fine tushime ground, inscribed, "Yanagawa Naomitsu" (Musashi, circa 1800). Katana: Length k/m 65.4 cm, total length 97 cm. Wakizashi: Length k/m 39.3 cm, total length 65 cm. Very rare, superb daisho with fine mounts dating from the second half of the Tokugawa period. The blades were made by members of two generations of the Kanemoto family, which brought forth a number of renowned swordsmiths. Usually blades of different origin, but similar form, were combined for a daisho.
