Description: Heavy cotton interwoven with gold and bearing an appliquéd, gold-coloured national eagle emblem outlined with thick gold cord on an oak leaf wreath. The swastika appliquéd in gold braid, with acorns and meander bordering on the sides. The forged iron suspension rings probably of later date. Dimensions circa 130 x 215 cm. The execution and design indicate that it is probably a parade platform banner of the "Neue Zeit" (tr. "New Era"). Cf. other decorative hangings of this kind in "2000 Jahre Deutsche Kultur", Bayerland Verlag, Munich 1938, p. 31 and in "Festtage in München", p. 38. The Haus der Kunst was inaugurated on 18 July 1937 with the first "Great German Art Exhibition" and the "Day of German Art" with a monumental procession, the motto of which was "2000 Years of German culture" Karl Kolb served as the first director. The following day, the "Degenerate Art" exhibition opened in the nearby gallery building in the Hofgarten. Both exhibitions were coordinated by Professor Adolf Ziegler of the Munich Academy, who held corresponding posts in the Reich Chamber of Culture and in Joseph Goebbel's Reich Ministry of Public Enlightenment and Propaganda. Until 1939, the "Day of German Art" was an annual event, at which Adolf Hitler would give a speech. Munich was awarded the honorary title of "Capital of German Art" and granted a historical procession as a sign of appreciation. Designed as an annual sales exhibition, the "Great German Art Exhibition" took place up until 1944, attracting several hundred thousand visitors every year.

These charges will be recorded on the buyer`s invoice (the insurance premium calculated at 1% of the aggregate purchase figure)
If shipping costs are not recorded on the buyer´s invoice it means either that the buyer intends to collect purchases in person or that standard shipping is not possible. In the latter case this may be for reasons of the abnormal size, weight or fragility of the purchased property, it may also result from the specific application of legal requirements.
In this instance we shall obtain a freight quotation on behalf of the buyer. Upon subsequent receipt of confirmed instructions Hermann Historica shall be pleased to proceed with shipping.
Due to changed regulations it is unfortunately no longer possible to send any kind of firearms from Germany to foreign destinations by regular mail service. We will, if possible, organise international shipping through forwarding agents or specialised courier services, however, with the consequence of noticeably higher shipping costs.
