Description: Curved, sharp single-edged blade with fuller on both sides, yelmen and double-edged Pandour point, each side with groove underneath the back, the base with stamp "EH". One half of the blade richly etched, gilt and blued on both sides, with depiction of trophies, wreaths and pyramid motifs. Knuckle-bow hilt of gilt non-ferrous metal, richly decorated in relief, with lion's head pommel, both sides of the pointed oval central shields finely decorated with laurel leaves and the sword of the cadets of the École de Mars. Grip with two layers of multiple wire wrapping. Gilt non-ferrous metal scabbard with two movable suspension rings and iron drag, on the obverse raised decoration in several parts on a finely punched background, depicting a battle scene and Neptune in a chariot drawn by two horses. Blade stained, bluing and gold plating rubbed, traces of use and age. Comes with a golden sword knot, not original. Extraordinarily magnificent and beautifully preserved sabre from the time of the Consulate for a high officer in the rank of a major or colonel.
