Lot 1049: A GEORGE III BRASS BOUND MAHOGANY WINE COOLER, CIRCA 1760 |
26 October 2016
London, United KingdomLive Auction
Description: the hinged top enclosing a later lead liner with gilt-brass carrying handles
Attractive scale. Lid lacks a ring handle to front side, probably fairly easy to replace. The lock is lacking and there are chips to this site, a section of timber to the lid in which held the lock shooting-bolt receiver has been replaced (approx. 9cm. long by 1cm. high). Residual brass polish throughout. Dents and scratches to brass. Old marks and scratches throughout (as to be expected). Probably re-polished but done well. Interior now with later lift out metal liner, formerly fitted with bottle divisions and lead lined - evidence of this to interior. A pleasing lot in terms of proportions and colour.
