Description: Oil on canvas. A group of Belling-Hussars in a rural setting. This work captures the historical moment in which Blücher, a cadet serving in the Swedish army, is brought before his uncle, Freiherr von Belling, the commander of the Prussian Hussars of the same name, as a prisoner of war. Von Belling persuades Blücher to join his regiment and fight under the Prussian flag. The Hussars, both infantry and cavalry, are meticulously portrayed in full gear, wearing their black and green uniforms from circa 1760, with skulls emblazoned on their black mirlitons. In an old moulded frame. Slightly damaged in places. Size of the painting circa 74 x 97 cm, size of the frame circa 97 x 117 cm. On 4.6.1794, Gebhard Leberecht von Blücher, who went on to become a Prussian Generalfeldmarschall, assumed the command of the von Belling Hussar regiment (Hussar Regiment no. 8).

Condition Report: II

Notes: Preußen Husaren
