Description: A Large Pair of Japanese Multi-Metal Vases, Meiji Period, each with a shield-shaped body resting on a splayed foot and rising to a sloped shoulder and cylindrical neck with trumpet mouth, the shoulder mounted with handles in the form of stylised mythical creatures, the body cast in relief and decorated in silver, gilding, shakudo and shibuichi with a peacock amidst the branches of a flowering peony tree, the foot with a band of lappets and the shoulder with mythical animals and archaic devices in hon-zogan, the neck with further long-tailed birds beneath a tama, height 58.8cms (2) Provenance: Pen Moel near Chepstow
