Description: A lovely Nicoya portrait jar from Costa Rica, ca. 750 - 1250 AD. It is 3-1/4 in in diameter and depicts an individual adorned with ear ornaments and facial decor. The upper section of the chamber is decorated with various geometric designs, most likely representing a ceremonial headdress. The large eyes indicate the portrayal of an individual in a state of drug induced trance. Strong paint, good mineral deposits and calcified root marks. Ex Beausset estate.
