Lot 12: A MELAS RUG, WEST ANATOLIA |
01 November 2016
London, United KingdomLive Auction
Description: Wool, pile
Overall measurements: 114cm across the top, 118cm across the bottom, 165cm from the left, 163cm from the right. Colours in reality are brighter and lighter, and more the piece overall is therefore more vibrant in appearance. It is a very pretty rug, with flexible handle. Soft dense wool 2-3mm pile overall, with some oxidisation to dark brown commensurate with dye. Some minute areas of pile down to foundation and some areas within green ground to main field down to knotheads. Both ends with original madder flatweave and vestiges of knotted fringing. With original madder triple sidecords, with some minor sections of later repair on left side. This is a particularly striking and good example, ready to place, and reasonably estimated.
