Lot 82: A NINGHSIA RUG, WEST CHINA |
01 November 2016
London, United KingdomLive Auction
Description: centred with the 'Buddhist lion'
78cm across the top, 77cm across the bottom, 142cm from the left, 143cm the right side. Soft lustrous wool with pile varying from 4-5mm at highest, down to knotheads, especially in the centre of the field and some areas down to foundation - visible in the photograph. There is some oxidisation to the browns, notably the outer fret border. There is a small area within the lower motif within the main field with a section 1cm by 1cm with pile lacking and foundation visible. Minor losses at both ends, now overlocked with vestiges of fringing visible. With original sidecords, with some nicks and minor areas of loose threads. This is a small, charming example with its rendition of a 'lion'.
