More About this Item

Description: January 1992 KÖLN. Aktie über 100 DM. green, pink, black. No 2605. One small perforation hole as cancellation, otherwise this share would surely not be available to collectors. The bank, today Dutch state-owned, has a long and successful history, going back to 1765. Its recent history starts in 1991 with the merger of the Algemene Bank Nederland (ABN) and AMRO Bank (the latter being the result of the merger between the Amsterdamsche Bank and the Rotterdamsche Bank in the 1960s). By 2007, ABN AMRO was the 15th biggest bank in the world. It was then taken over by a consortium made up of the Royal Bank of Scotland, Fortis and Banco Santander. And then, the financial crisis broke out, putting Royal Bank of Scotland and Fortis in serious difficulties. ABN AMRO was rescued by the Dutch government and remained fully state-owned until at least 2014. The share we offer is of the bank's German holding in which the Handels- und Privatbank AG was placed. This bank was founded in the 1920s in Berlin as the Bank für Landwirtschaft AG and soon expanded all over Germany, acquiring for instance the Westdeutsche Bank für Landwirtschaft AG (Köln), the Getreidekreditbank (Hamburg) and the Landwirtschaftliche Rentenbank (Frankfurt am Main). Extremely rare.
