Description: This is a Fine Abstract Painting “The Lover’s Nightmare” by Renowned Listed Artist Alex Calzadilla. This piece is oil on canvas measuring approximately 41” x 59.25”. The piece is signed lower right “Alex Calzadilla” circa 95-97. This wonderful piece comes from the Rhodes-Nadler Collection, and this is the first opportunity that several of the pieces from this collection are being offered for sale to the public. Born and raised in Holguin, Cuba, Calzadilla grew up in a world very different from the one that most Americans are familiar. Through his trials and tribulations, he overcame the hardships of daily life in his homeland never forgetting or abandoning his love for his country. At the age of thirty, Calzadilla set out on his journey to America on a tiny raft against an unforgiving sea, upon his arrival in America, Calzadilla spent one year in a confinement camp at Guantanamo Bay Naval Base. He worked tirelessly on his art at this time. The subject of his earlier work focuses on the struggle for life and survival during his long sea voyage and life behind the wired fences at Guantanamo.
