Réunion de huit lettres autographes signées à Alfred de Vigny
[Londres], Gore House, [vers le 16 décembre 1838, vers le 2 janvier, 12 janvier, fin janvier, 31 janvier ou 1er février, vers le 7 février et 8 mars 1839], 5 février 1848. Ens. 15 p. et demie in-12 et in-8 (dimensions diverses), suscriptions et 3 enveloppes, cachets de cire rouge.

Correspondance du célèbre dandy français Alfred d'Orsay qui avait connu Vigny à la pension Hix. Les sept premières datent du séjour en Angleterre d'Alfred et Lydia de Vigny (fin novembre 1838-fin avril 1839) qui fréquentèrent beaucoup durant cette période le comte d'Orsay et lady Blessington dont le salon de Gore House, dans le quartier de Kensington, était l'un des plus brillants de Londres : "Je viens d'apprendre avec le plus grand plaisir que tu étais en Angleterre. J'avais promis depuis longtemps à Lady Blessington que je lui présenterais mon ancien ami. C'est très aimable de m'en fournir l'occasion. " ([vers le 16 décembre 1838]) ; "Si je n'avais appris à t'aimer depuis mon enfance, tes ouvrages sont la garantie sûre que tu dois inspirer le plus fort sentiment à ceux qui ont le cœur et l'âme de te comprendre. Je suis ravi de la dernière nuit de travaille [sic], et de Chatterton, et je te retrouve à chaque ligne de cet ouvrage. " ([12 janvier 1839]) ; la lettre du 31 janvier ou 1er février est accompagnée d'une lettre du tragédien Macready à Alfred d'Orsay ([Londres], 31 janvier 1839, 2 p. in-8) le priant de demander à Vigny s'il connaît quelques particularités propres au cardinal de Richelieu, dans ses manières, son maintien, sa démarche, puisqu'il doit interpréter le rôle-titre du drame éponyme de Bulwer Lytton. La dernière lettre évoque Berlioz : "Je me suis retrouvé en pays de connaissance avec lui, car il est aussi ami d'Eugène Sue, de Litz [sic], etc. , etc. , enfin de tous les bergers de notre époque ; car la société ne se compose que de ces derniers, et des innombrables moutons".

Alfred de VIGNY. 1797-1863. Réunion de quatre minutes et brouillons autographes de lettres à Alfred d'Orsay et une minute autographe d'une lettre à lady Blessington. Paris, 18 octobre 1840 (2), 30 mai 1843, 31 janvier et 1er février 1848. Ens. 15 p. in-8. Les lettres de 1848 sont des recommandations dithyrambiques en faveur d'Hector Berlioz qui "va faire lui-même en Angleterre la propagande de cette belle et innocente révolution dans l'art qu'il a accomplie en France" (1er février).
On joint en outre le brouillon autographe d'un très beau texte sur Alfred d'Orsay écrit par Vigny au moment de la mort de son ami d'enfance le 4 août 1852 (16 p. in-folio, la première portant la mention "journal 1852") : "Depuis Brummel, le sceptre des dandies était resté vacant. D'Orsay le saisit en prince mais il lui en coûta cher". Cet hommage fut publié par Jean Sangnier en annexe des Mémoires inédits.
Manque central à une lettre d'Alfred d'Orsay atteignant trois lignes. Quelques déchirures, pliures et manques marginaux, sans atteinte au texte. Trous d'épingles.
