Description: Alfred de VIGNY 1797-1863 Correspondance autographe avec Louise, Charles et Georges Lachaud Paris, le Maine-Giraud, 2 mars 1845-13 juillet 1863. Ens. environ 278 p. in-12 et in-8 (dimensions diverses), et 13 enveloppes. Correspondance familiale entre Alfred de Vigny et les Lachaud. Elle comprend 59 lettres et 17 minutes et brouillons : 39 lettres (dont une incomplète) et un brouillon de lettre de Vigny à Louise Lachaud ; 6 lettres de Louise Lachaud à Vigny ; 15 brouillons de lettres de Vigny à Charles Lachaud ; 10 lettres de Charles Lachaud à Vigny ; 4 lettres (dont une incomplète) et une minute de lettre de Vigny à Georges Lachaud. Louise Lachaud (1825-1887), dont on attribue la paternité à Alfred de Vigny mais sans preuve formelle, fut le seul enfant de la famille Ancelot à parvenir à l'âge adulte, ses deux frères étant mors en bas âge. Élevée au couvent de Picpus, elle côtoya dans sa jeunesse les hommes de lettres et artistes qui fréquentaient le salon de sa mère, où, parfois, elle jouait du piano et chantait. Appelée pensait-elle à la vie religieuse, elle épousa finalement en 1844 le jeune avocat Charles Lachaud qui, inscrit l'année précédente au barreau de Paris, avait tout d'abord exercé à Tulle. Elle se consacra ensuite entièrement à sa famille et notamment à ses deux enfants - Georges (1844-1896, filleul d'Alfred de Vigny, avocat et grand voyageur) et Thérèse (1846-1920, épouse de l'avocat Félix Sangnier et mère de Marc Sangnier, le fondateur du Sillon). Elle accompagna fidèlement Alfred de Vigny à la fin de ses jours et celui-ci fit d'elle sa légataire universelle. Dévouée à sa mère jusqu'à la mort de celle-ci en 1875, elle entra l'année suivante dans le tiers-ordre séculier de Saint-Dominique. Les lettres présentées ici sont les seules semble-t-il - à l'exception de quatre autres conservées aujourd'hui à la Bibliothèque nationale de France (2), à la bibliothèque Condé et dans une collection privée - qui aient été conservées de cette correspondance intime et familière entretenue par Alfred de Vigny avec sa fille de cœur, si ce n'est de sang, et son filleul, les lettres échangées avec Charles Lachaud étant plus distantes et traitant surtout des affaires du poète. "Il faut que vous sachiez vous, Louise, que toutes les fois que dans ce livre de Servitude et grandeur mres il y a : je, c'est la vérité. J'étais à Vincennes lors de la mort de ce pauvre adjudant. Je vis aussi sur la route de Belgique une charrette conduite par un vieux chef de bataillon. Je chevauchai ainsi en chantant Joconde. Pour le capitaine Renaud, c'est un combat que j'ai voulu livrer à l'esprit de Séide qui nous saisit trop aisément en France. Il n'y a pas un ambitieux égoïste qui ne trouve dans la foule des esclaves presque fous d'obéissance aveugle. " (19 juillet 1847) ; "Lorsque j'ai quitté Paris, Georges en savait bien plus que vous et moi sur l'histoire de la Création et votre gracieuse mère vous dira qu'elle-même était embarrassée pour soutenir la conversation avec lui sur cette grande question. Il signait son nom infiniment mieux que le Sire de Joinville et St Louis ne le savaient faire et il allait entrer dans la vie publique. J'espère que ce magistrat ne m'oublie pas et je vous prie de me recommander à lui et de lui recommander aussi les épaules et les oreilles de sa sœur et des jeunes personnes qu'il attèle ordinairement à son char. - J'espère que vous n'avez pas pris de leçons de harpe qui ne sauraient manquer de vous rendre les doigts aussi durs que les ongles des vautours. J'ai connu deux jeunes femmes chez qui ce défaut était devenu tel qu'on ne les nommait plus harpistes mais harpies. Êtes-vous assez effrayée pour vous arrêter dans votre harmonieux projet ?"
