Description: Alfred de VIGNY 1797-1863 Mémoires de famille : manuscrits autographes [Vers 1847-1862]. Ens. environ 126 p. in-4 et in-folio (dimensions diverses). Ensemble de manuscrits autographes corrigés de chapitres et d'épisodes constituant l'ébauche de mémoires de famille inachevés. Alfred de Vigny travailla sur ce texte par intermittence, de 1847 à 1862 environ, et lui donna à plusieurs reprises le titre "Aimer après la vie". Il évoque dans ces pages l'histoire de sa famille, sa première visite au Maine-Giraud guidé par sa tante Sophie de Baraudin, son enfance à l'Élysée-Bourbon, ses années de collège, etc. La première partie des Mémoires inédits publiés en 1958 par Jean Sangnier correspond aux manuscrits présentés ici - à l'exception d'un fragment intitulé "De la noblesse et de l'origine" (p. 62-65) qui n'a pas été retrouvé. Vigny a laissé dans son manuscrit divers documents anciens relatifs aux Baraudin et aux Bougainville, et inséré, en regard d'un passage évoquant son père, une gravure de Dien représentant le baron de Besenval d'après Pierre Danloux : "Je ne puis mieux vous le peindre qu'en vous montrant une gravure que je rencontrai il y a peu de temps sur les quais[…]". On découvre aussi dans cet ensemble plusieurs fragments laissés de côté, comme celui-ci : "En rêvant ainsi, je tournais et roulais machinalement dans mes doigts cette même plume d'ivoire dont je me sers pour écrire ceci et, à mesure que je m'efforçais de créer des personnages qui eussent la physionomie animée comme des vivans et dont la réalité imaginaire fût appuyée sur ce que j'avais observé de la réalité de la vie, je m'apperçus [sic] que je traçais involontairement le profil de mes parens qui venaient se ranger dans ma mémoire et dont la pensée venait malgré moi s'étendre sur mon papier et sous ma plume qui les dessinait involontairement. ". On joint à ces manuscrits un amusant portrait de la marquise de Montmelas publié en annexe des Mémoires inédits. Manques, déchirures et pliures marginaux, certains atteignant le texte.
