ALFRED LAMBART (1902-1970) DUNBAR. Circa 1925.
40x24 1/2 inches, 101x62 1/4 cm. Chorley & Pickersgill Ltd., Leeds.
Condition A-: minor staining in bottom margin; light creases and restoration along vertical and horizontal folds.
Lambart, who was a painter and a book illustrator, designed fewer than a dozen posters for the various British railway companies in the 1920s and 30s. The majority of the posters advertised travel to beach or seaside resorts, such as this locale on Scotland's southeast coast. His images, all of which depict people at leisure (as opposed to landscapes), are infused with a stylish, bright and happy Art Deco aesthetic.
