Description: good war used antique condition as assumed by the heavy scratching in the sword handle and handguard as well as original handle grip being replaced by genuine leather wrap with hand stitched leather seam which now slightly covers the brass pommel the leather wrap shows good age and wear from hand held use or practice light stamped on the blade base u.s. mm 1864 maker?s marked reads ames mfg. co chicopee mass sword is 32.25 inch long curved single edged steel blade with 4 5ths length convex fuller channel pommel has domed brass cap scabbard is in good battle used condition with a nice dark patina brass shows through in a few places of heavy wear hammer welded rings there are a few minor dings most likely from being worn on the side on a horse during battle or practices less than 20,000 model 1840 light horse artillery mounted cavalrymen sabers were produced
