North American, 19th century, iron and wood. Double-edged convex tapering blade with fluted midrib set into hide wrapped grip, the hand carved pommel representing the head of fierce sea creature, having thick lips, wide nostrils, and abolone inset eyes under ridged brow. 21"l.
