Description: An impressive Waterford crystal trophy, the slice cut body cameo cut with St Genesius and a Roman Praetorian guard beneath an arch formed from the words 'Waterford Glass Award Cork Film Festival 1967', diamond cut upper and lower rims, conforming knop, 47cm high, 11cm diameter St Genesius, the patron saint of actors, is depicted here refusing to renounce his Christian faith despite Plautia, the prefect of the Praetorium guard, holding a knife to his throat. Genesius was supposedly originally a Roman actor who took part in plays poking fun at Christianity, but then during a play for the Emperor Diocletian he is said to have a vision of angels and called for the on-stage 'priest' to baptise him. He refused to renounce his faith even under torture and was eventually beheaded.
