Lot 14: Ancient Roman Bronze Winged Figure
27 October 2016
Louisville, CO, USALive Auction
Roman, Imperial Period, ca. 1st to 4th century CE. A small cast bronze statuette of a winged male figure, possibly Cupid. The figure has male genitalia and stands in a striding position with wings erect behind his back; he also has flowing hair. The figure is well worn, as if its owners held it often; the statuette is probably a copy of a larger statue that would have been in a civic space in Roman life. Size: 1.3" W x 2.4" H (3.3 cm x 6.1 cm)
Provenance: ex-Brand Collection, Pennsylvania
