For some time, Italian artist Angelo Brotto worked for the Tuscan company Esperia; during this period he created numerous remarkable wall lightning sculptures and other types of lamps. When lit, the sconce gives an expressive illumination with interesting shadow-effects caused by the irregular arranged glass rods. Both a work of art and functional light source, this lamp is testimony of Brotto’s exquisite and inventive repertoire.

Condition:
The sconce is in a good condition and is electrified. The surfaces are partially minimally rubbed and scratched. Since light bulb and plug are missing, the lamp was not tested on functionality. There is no guarantee on functionality. The dimensions of the screen measure 80 x 80 x 11 cm.

Angelo Brotto (1914-2002)
The Italian artist was born in Venice on march 23rd 1914. From 1939 onwards Brotto studied at the Venetian Institute d'Arte, in 1941 he continued his studies at the Accademia. First, he almost exclusively worked as a painter and created numerous atmospheric landscapes, blurred by the lagoon’s haze as well as portraits. Later he turned to Pittura metafisica and the Surrealists, at this time his work was permeated by tragic and sometimes macabre undertones. Brotto was also very successful as etcher and designer and won many awards. His works can be viewed, among others, at Ca 'Pesaro in Venice and at the modern museums of Rome. (nlu)
