Lot 1549: ARIZONA COPPER HILL MINING CO.
29 October 2016
Brussels, BelgiumLive Auction
Description: 20 July 1903 ARIZONA/COLORADO. DENVER. Shares of $1. blue, brown, gold seal. No 1044. Although copper was mined in Arizona by the Spanish, it was only after the completion of the Southern Pacific in 1876 that the industry became viable. Very many new mines were opened up, including this, in Pinal County, S. and S.E. of Phoenix. The state is U.S.A.'s largest producer of copper today. This company was formed in Denver in 1900 (and this cert. printed there) with a capital of 1 million USD. It owned 4 claims in the Canada del Oro District near Oracle, Pinal County. Vignette of a cactus, and U.S. eagle-and shield. The back is even much more decorative with a classic vignette of miners at work and - most significantly - a large vignette of the mine shaft and above ground mining installations as seen from the inside (not the traditional view of the buildings as seen from the outside).
