More About this Item

Description: 15 February 1793 56 MORBIHAN. LORIENT. Action de 1500 Livres. black. No 2. This share regards the corsair 'Sans-Culotte'. The ship was fitted out at Lorient, under captain La Creyte, to raid enemy (usually English) shipping and return with valuable prizes. The ship was 62 feet long, with 12 8-pounder guns, and a crew of 66 men. The cost of fitting-out was 88.500 livres, and the finance was raised by issue of shares of 1500 livres. Sadly, this piece is not in good condition, with severe water-damage on right and left sides, with much of the paper missing. Its condition isstabilized with Japanese paper. However, all the printed text is complete and very clear, so the problem is only cosmetic! Modest start price.
