More About this Item

Description: 13 April 1810 22 COTES-DU-NORD. LEGUE/SAINT-BRIEUC. Action de F250. black. No 50. The ship 'Lively' was to sail from Legué, near St. Brieuc, Brittany, with 20 men and well-armed, to seize prizes from the British. Under Napoleon time, there was intermittent war between England and France and allowing (stimulating?) French pirates to attack British vessels was one of the ways to fight this war. This is one of the 64 shares of F250 issued to finance the voyage. The shareholders would receive as share in the profits from prizes captured during the voyage. A great example of the famous French pirate shares from the Napoleonic period.
