The wedding cabinet is one of the most popular furniture item in China and has even gained attention in the Western world due to its stately appearance. Cabinets of this kind were given the bridal couple as dowry and until today this custom is being continued. Following traditional construction methods, wedding cabinets are manufactured from red or black lacquered cedar or elm wood without the use of screws or nails. Characteristic for the cupboards are furthermore the large metal fittings on the doors. Since red is the color of good luck and prosperity, most of the original cabinets were painted red.
The armoire is in a good condition. The lacquer is partially bumped. The right door is slightly warped. The height measures 210 cm, the width is 59.5 and the depth is 50 cm. (nlu)
