Description: Artist: DAN REISINGER (1934- ) Size: 26 1/2 x 39 in./67.4 x 99 cm Israel's leading graphic artist, Reisinger has gained worldwide recognition for his paintings and logos, as well as his posters. "It was this Japanese ballet company, named 'Cherry Blossom Tree,' which...introduced the Israeli public to Japanese ballet and kabuki... This is one of Reisinger's best works. He sought a direct approach to the spirit of the Japanese dance...and while it has 'obvious' components, from dress to sun to ancient Japanese print, such combination, which usually descends to the level of a cliché-filled and mediocre work in someone else's hands, here, in the hands of Reisinger results instead in a poster of graphic harmony, fully respecting the Japanese tradition as well as the demands of the poster medium" (Dance Posters, p. 15). (judaica, dance)
