Description: This jacket is soft brain tanned great early beadwork. It is about 23" wide including sleeves and 31" from top of collar to bottom. There are approximately 13 different colors of beads probably more. Most of the brain tanned skin is soft and supple and could be either Elk or Moose, as it is quite thick. There are several repairs on this jacket where there were holes (hide replaced). There are also a few splits or tears in the jacket and/or on the shoulders (see photos) Overall it is sewn together using classic Native American stitching with both sinew and thread sewn. This jacket has nice thongs as closures a great cut and style and trim. The beads appear all to be pre 1900, most including the red white hearts much earlier. Thereby dating the jacket circa 1880's. It is beautifully beaded Native American jacket.
