Description: "THINK CAREFULLY BEFORE TAKING ON 'NOT I'. IT IS FIENDISHLY DIFFICULT" BECKETT, SAMUEL. Autograph Letter, unsigned, to Richard S. Bailey ("Dear Richard"), listing his current theatrical projects, giving permission to include certain changes in Bailey's production of Krapp's Last Tape, warning of the difficulty of producing Not I, expressing gladness about the success of Bailey's Deus ex Machina, and congratulating him on the birth of his daughter. Beckett closes with "I am" followed by a tiny dot in place of a signature. With the original envelope. Berlin, 2 October 1978

Notes: ". . . Here directing Play for the Schiller Werkstatt. Have also been working with Rick [Cluchey] . . . on their Endgame for performance next month in London at the Open Space Theatre. All in good form.
"Of course you may incorporate in your production of Krapp the changes we made in the academy.
"You should think carefully before taking on Not I. It is fiendishly difficult. . . ."
