A CASED PAIR OF 30-BORE PERCUSSION TARGET-PISTOLS, no visible serial numbers,
circa 1835, possibly converted from flint, with swamped octagonal 9in. twist-iron scratch-rifled barrels, dove-tailed bead fore-sights, standing notch rear-sights with carved sighting grooves, the breech-blocks with inlaid band and floral accents, moulded snails, plain flat pointed-tail locks of flintlock style signed in script ''PAR BREVET D''INVENTION BRUNEEL A LYON'', moulded slab-sided hammers, walnut half-stocks (possibly cut-back from full), chequered full pistol-grips with flared pommels carved with floral bands in relief, domed iron butt-caps, pillared trigger-guard bows with applied spurs, set triggers, carved plain finials and ramrod throats, replacement iron ramrods (one pistol with old repairs to woodwork mostly around lock); TOGETHER WITH a walnut case, re-fitted and lined in the Continental manner with blue-grey baize and also accommodating a number of period accessories probably original to these pistols including loading and cleaning rods, loading mallet, embossed flask of French form, nipple key and ball mould
