Post Civil War Celluloid Pinback of General Robert E. Lee
c. 1880s Post Civil War Period. Decorative Celluloid Portrait Pinback of General Robert E. Lee, With its Original Pinback. Choice Extremely Fine.
This rare, vintage Celluloid Portrait Pinback of General Robert E. Lee is housed in a highly decorative period "twisted vine" design ornate style rim measuring about 1 3/8" in diameter. We believe this image comes from the Vannerson photograph of Lee taken in 1863 and used as a commemorative or reunion piece. There is no damage and the image is strong and sharp in contrast. Though invented in 1863, the use of celluloid for images was produced about 1879. Robert E. Lee died on October 12, 1870. The first we have offered.
