Condition / Notes: This is the scarce first edition of this work, bound in the original leather boards with a new spine cover bearing five raised bands and stamped gilt lettering. There is moderate external rubbing and scuffing. The binding is solid. The text block is adorned with marbled endpapers. The pages show mild age toning and occasional light marginal spotting. The work is profusely illustrated with fold-out maps and plates. A "called for" plate 2 is lacking, with no evidence that it was ever produced.
