c. 1776 Revolutionary War Brass Coffee or Spice Mill
c. 1776 Revolutionary War Era 18th century, Brass Coffee or Spice Mill, Complete, 4.5" tall, Very Fine.
Original brass Coffee or Spice Mill, likely from a Revolutionary War era Soldier's Camp. Stands about 4.5" tall. As described in the "Collector's Illustrated Encyclopedia of the American Revolution": "In the 17th century, coffee beans were commonly ground in a mortar and pestle. By the time of the American Revolution - spurred by the great acceptance of coffee houses - portable brass coffee mills such as this were in use, and are still popular in some eastern Mediterranean countries." Light overall wear from actual use, having a natural rich brass patina on this stylish example.
