1824 George Washington & Marquis de LaFayette Colorful Yellow & Red Creamware Commemorative Cup
c. 1824, Commemorative Canary Yellow Creamware Childs Cup with "La Fayette" and "Washington" Jugate Portrait in Rare "Red" Transfer, likely made by Enoch Wood and Sons, England, Extremely Fine.
This quality Ceramic Child's Cup measures 2.5" tall x 2.5" at its base. The cup is canary yellow with a quite rare and unusual "Red" transfer. This design is listed as L.13 on page 127 in "Anglo-American Ceramics Part I" by Arman. The Cup displays in excellent condition, with the transfer decoration being crisp and bold and very attractive. The Canary Yellow glaze is bright and bold. This historic Creamware mug was produced to celebrate and commemorate the historic return visit and tour of America by the Marquis de Lafayette in 1824. It has a lovely red, decorative Jugate transfer print showing the portraits of both George Washington and the Marquis de Lafayette. Directly above and between those two figures is an American Eagle with Stars fanning out above its outstretched wings; a banner in its talons reads: "LA FAYETTE" and "WASHINGTON" above the appropriate portrait.
