An early color printing of the Poem "The Man With The Hoe." by Edwin Markham (1852-1940), famous American writer, biographer, author and poet, measures 4.5" x 13.5", 2 pages (face and back), San Francisco, CA. Advertisement has been folded a few times with a pen stroke through the top text block regarding the sale of Markham's book on Poems. The illustration shows a man leaning on a hoe, who looks exhausted. It was Markham that wrote and read his poem on Abe Lincoln at the dedication of the Lincoln Memorial in Washington, DC. "The Man With A Hoe.", is said to be his finest poem. This poem crystallizes a hundred years of American labor, protested conditions through this poem. This edition of the poem must have belonged to Markham, for he initials it at the bottom and makes a few corrections to the text. Old mounting spots at top and bottom, only seen if held to the light, does not affect text. Rarely encountered.
Edwin Markham was a noted author and biographer of Abraham Lincoln.
